Making a difference in our community! We are a group of local volunteers dedicated to providing a professional level of fire protection, emergency medical response and rescue services to the property owners and residents of the Town of Ischua. We are committed to preventing or minimizing the loss of life, pain and suffering, and property damage as a result of fire or other type of emergency, and to provide mutual-aid to our neighboring towns.
The fire department is always looking for new members. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer, please download the Ischua VFD Application. Completed applications may be mailed or dropped off in person.
Our volunteers responded to 109 calls in 2023.
Active volunteer firefighters and volunteer ambulance workers who were active for the entire year are entitled to claim tax credits on their NYS Income Tax. The credit amount is $200 ($400 for married filing joint taxpayers where both spouses are eligible). If the credit exceeds your tax for the year, any excess will be refunded without interest.

The Jaws of Life is a valuable emergency tool used by firefighters to help rescue individuals trapped in their vehicle after a dangerous accident. It is used to cut through cars and rip open vehicle doors to release trapped occupants quickly and safely. The tool is powerful enough to cut car frames apart and lift crushing weights from passengers. The photos show our new recruits learning how to use this valuable life-saving tool.
